The super fruit that keeps on giving

Last time we learned about what I consider one of the healthiest foods in the world, the avocado. The secret ingredient was the good kind of fat that supports brain function, hormone production and because it’s so  satisfying, can even help you lose weight.  What I didn’t mention was how rare this good fat is coming from a non animal source. Good fats are found in olive oil as well as nuts and seeds and some whole grains, but to find them in a fruit is simply wonderful.

What other fruit can actually help prevent heart disease and even diabetes while it combats obesity? What else does the avocado contain that makes it a nutritional powerhouse that you will want to include in your healthy future? First of all, let’s see what vitamins and minerals avocados contain…
Vitamin B1
Vitamin B2
Vitamin B3
Vitamin B5
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B9
Vitamin C
Vitamin E
Vitamin K
Calcium
Iron
Magnesium
Manganese
Phosphorus
Sodium
Zinc

…How is that for an example of some of the most essential nutrients for your health all in one fruit? Let’s add some fun facts to the discussion that will make your mouth water for my healthy guacamole recipe to follow…

*Avocados contain more potassium than bananas.
*Studies show high oleic acid found in avocados prevents breast cancer, inhibits tumor growth in prostate cancer and may seek out precancerous and oral cancer cells and destroy them.
*Avocados contain lutein, an essential pigment for eye health, which can help prevent cataracts and macular degeneration.
*Because avocados are high in beta-sitosterol they can help lower bad cholesterol and triglycerides while raising the good cholesterol levels.
*Polyphenols and flavonoids within avocados have anti-inflammatory properties.
*Avocados are high in fiber which will help you feel fuller longer and may help with weight loss. High fiber also helps balance blood sugar.
*Avocados contain folate which can lower the incidence of heart disease and the risk of having a stroke. Vitamin E, monounsaturated fats and glutathione which are also present are beneficial for the heart.
*Avocado oil nourishes and moisturizes the skin and can be a beneficial treatment for psoriasis and other skin irritations.

WOW! If that doesn’t make you want to make my healthy guacamole I don’t know what will…
