Miracle of Morucel™ Chapter
Chapter 18: The Morucel™ Miracle
Morucel™ is a highly purified, standardized extract from the mulberry leaf. Mulberry leaf has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine. Known as “Divine Leaf” in 200 B.C., it was traditionally used for its adaptogenic benefits, helping the body to deal with stress, stabilize mood, increase stamina and even longevity. Boiled as a tea to “make people wise and ageless,” it was also used for its digestive benefits.
Recently, modern science has begun to verify some of these traditional uses with studies on certain components of this unique leaf. The mulberry leaf contains specific iminosugars, also called azasugars, which are potent, after-meal carbohydrate blockers . The mulberry leaf’s most abundant and bioactive carbohydrate blocker is an iminosugar known as 1-deoxynojirimycin or DNJ for short. DNJ, a very potent glucosidase inhibitor, is the enzyme system responsible for breaking down carbohydrates into simple sugars. When the glucosidase enzyme does its job, complex carbohydrates are digested and glucose is released. Glucose, of course, is the simple sugar measured as your blood sugar level.
By slowing down the intestinal digestion of carbohydrates, DNJ can potentially help the body to control excessive blood sugar increases. Exciting news since the rapid rise in blood sugar level after eating can be very dangerous when blood sugar regulation problems exist.
Anything we can do to keep our blood sugar level from climbing too high means a healthier future. When blood sugar is too high there is a significant increase in heart disease, kidney function, eye problems and nerve disorders. High blood sugar can take years off your life and quality of life out of your years. The body simply ages faster.
DNJ, the key blood sugar balancing ingredient in mulberry leaf, was just recently discovered. However, all mulberry leaves are not created equal. Some species contain much higher levels of DNJ than others. To further complicate matters, it is extremely difficult to extract a high enough concentration of DNJ while maintaining its bioactivity. Research scientists finally have solved this problem and are achieving DNJ levels never achieved before.
